There is a certain ambiguity between the terms: LIPOSUCTION and LIPOESCULPTURE. Usually they are conceptual and it can be said that it is the same conduct. Liposuction is a plastic surgery indicated for those who want to adjust the body contour, REMOVING the excess fat from certain regions. In liposculpture, localized fat is removed from certain regions and EXPLODED in other areas of the body that require greater fat filling.
Reading these observations about LIPOSUCTION and LIPOESCULPTURE surgery will serve to clarify the details that are surely interesting to you at the moment. There is erroneous information about this surgery, information generated by exceptional cases of patients operated in conditions that are adverse to normality. Let your plastic surgeon tell you about the convenience of associating it with other surgery (s) and consider the advantages and disadvantages of such an association. Usually, the following questions are asked by the patients to their plastic surgeon at the time of the initial consultation:
HOW MANY KILLS DO I GET BLEEDED WITH LIPOSCULTURE?
Being a surgery that removes a certain amount of fat, of course there will be a reduction in weight, which varies according to the body volume of each patient. They are not, however, the "kilos" taken away that will define the aesthetic result, but rather the proportions that each determined area maintains with the rest of the trunk and the members. Thus, women who have a certain bulge in the abdomen or other parts of the trunk, as well as in the quadriceps and upper thighs, may have firm or possibly flaccid skin. The correct evaluation of 3 items: quality of skin elasticity, amount of fat and its location, allow us to evaluate the result. There are cases in which the patient is overweight. We recommend a prior balance before surgery, which leads us to advise those who present themselves to proceed with a previous clinical or physiotherapeutic treatment. There are cases where fat is removed from certain areas and reinjected this fat removed under aseptic conditions in other regions that need to increase its volume. Some of this fat can be reabsorbed. It is impossible to predict the percentage of permanence of this fat; however, special care is devoted to the treatment of this fat in order to provide a greater possibility of success.
LIPOESCULTURA LEAVES SCARS VERY VISIBLE?
The scars resulting from a liposuction or liposuction are minimal, localized in various parts of the body, in order to allow access to the areas to be operated. Their size ranges from 5 to 8 millimeters and are designed to be barely visible. Anyway, let us give an explanation about the evolution of a scar, whether it is due to this or that surgery. So it is that:
- IMMEDIATE PERIOD: It goes until the 30th day and presents with excellent appearance and little visible. Some cases present a slight reaction to the stitches or to the dressing.
- MEDIATE PERIOD. It goes from the 30th day until the 12th month. In this period there will be a natural thickening of the scar, as well as a change in the color of its color, going from "red" to "brown", which will gradually lighten. This period, the least favorable of cicatricial evolution, is what most worries patients. As we can not rush the natural process of healing, we recommend that patients do not worry, as the late period will reduce scarring.
- LATE PERIOD: Goes from the 12th to the 18th month. In this period, the scar begins to become clearer and less consistent, thus reaching its definitive appearance. Any evaluation of the final result should be made after this period.
HOW LONG WILL I FIND THE FINAL RESULT?
In the previous response some considerations were made on the evolution of the scar. It remains to be added some observations on the treated areas, regarding their consistency, sensitivity, volume, etc. In the first weeks or even months, these areas, besides being subject to periods of "bumps", may present some points dense than others. These are usually only noticeable on palpation and tend to disappear after the 3rd. month. Over the course of the months, with adequate lymphatic drainage and modeling exercises performed, the final result is gradually reached. No outcome should be considered definitive, before 6 to 9 months postoperatively.
DOES THE LIPOSUCTION CORRECT THAT EXCESS OF FAT OVER THE REGION OF THE STOMA?
Usually yes. Depending on your type of torso (chest + abdomen set), we can have a very natural result. Also of great importance in this respect is the thickness of the adipose panicle (fat thickness) that lines the body.
WHAT TYPE OF MEANING CAN I USE, AFTER SURGERY?
It is up to you. Your dummy will tell you.
CAN I HAVE FUTURE CHILDREN? THE RESULT WILL NOT BE HARMFUL?
The result can be preserved, provided that in the new gestation its weight is controlled by specialist. If you go back to your previous weight and your skin does not show flaccidity and stretch marks due to pregnancy, the forms obtained will be retained. It should be noted, however, that the body of woman undergoes variations of shape over time, due to the arrangement of fat in the various body areas, especially in the abdomen, chairs and thighs. So every 5 or 10 years, the disposition of fat in the body changes from person to person. Even so, that excess taken in the due areas, will always give you a better evolution, even if you gain some weight.
IS POST-OPERATIVE LIPOSUCTION VERY PAINFUL?
Usually not. A liposuction or liposculpture of normal evolution should not present pain, provided the postoperative guidelines are obeyed. Any discomforts are resolved with the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories.
IS THERE A DANGER IN THIS OPERATION?
Rarely liposuction brings serious complications as long as performed within technical criteria. This is due to the fact that each patient is properly prepared for the surgical procedure, besides considering the convenience of associating this surgery simultaneously with others. The danger is no greater or less than any other elective surgery, or even a plane or car trip, and even the simple crossing of a street. However, it is important to take into account that large volumes withdrawn may determine risks, both in the operative and in the postoperative period. It is agreed in the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery that the total volume of fat to be withdrawn per session does not exceed 5 to 7% of body weight. Your surgeon should tell you in detail about the ideal volume for your case.
WHAT TYPE OF ANESTHESIA IS USED FOR THIS OPERATION?
General, epidural or local anesthesia.
HOW LONG DOES THE SURGICAL TREATMENT LAST?
Depending on the extent of the areas to be treated, the time varies from 1 to 3 hours, and may be exceeded in some cases. However, the duration of the surgical procedure should not be confused with the length of stay of patient in the Surgical Center environment, since this permanence also involves the period of anesthetic preparation and postoperative recovery. Your doctor can tell you the total time.
WHAT IS THE INTERVENTION PERIOD?
Depending on the extent of the aspirated area and the type of anesthesia (local with sedation, epidural, general) the period of hospitalization may vary from a few hours to 1 day.
ARE HEALING USED?
Yes. Semi-compressive dressings with special straps, kept for a period of 30 to 45 days, on average.
WHEN ARE THE POINTS REMOVED?
From the 4th to the 7th day.
WHEN CAN I GET A COMPLETE BATH?
Usually the day after surgery.
WHAT POST-OPERATIVE EVOLUTION?
You should not forget that until you achieve the desired result, several phases are characteristic of this type of surgery. Thus, in item 02, was clarified on the cicatricial evolution (until the 18th month). In item 03 on the sensitivity, consistency, etc. However, you may be concerned that you "want to achieve the final result ahead of schedule". Be patient because your body will take care of dissipating all the small intermediary disorders that will infallibly draw the attention of one of your friends that you will not shy away from the remark: "// WILL THIS WILL DISAPPEAR?" And any concern on your part should be passed on to your plastic surgeon, and only to him, who will give you the necessary clarification, for your peace of mind. In time: In some patients, a certain anxiety occurs at this stage, due to the transient aspect. This is fleeting and generally reflects the desire to achieve the end result as soon as possible. Remember that no result should be considered final before 6 to 9 months. Complementary behaviors in Academies, with beauticians or even physiotherapists, can greatly improve the final result, since, the muscular modeling is a factor of great importance in the new corporal contour.
PREOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS ON LIPOSCULTURE / LIPOSUCTION:
- Communicate with your plastic surgeon up to 2 days before surgery, in case of flu, menstrual period, indisposition, etc.
- Go to the hospital indicated in the guide, obeying the time of hospitalization.
- Avoid alcoholic drinks or very lavish meals on the eve of the surgery.
- Avoid any and all weight loss medicine that you may be taking for a period of 10 days before the surgery. This also includes diuretics.
- Schedule your social activities, domestic or school, so as not to become indispensable to third parties, for a period of approximately 4 to 5 days.
POSTOPERATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS ON LIPOSCULTURE / LIPOSUCTION:
- Avoid straining for 8 days.
- Get up as often as it is recommended at the time of discharge, obeying periods of sitting (a), as well as avoid maximal efforts.
- Do not expose yourself to the sun or cold for at least 1 week.
- Obey to medical prescription.
- Return to the office for the subsequent dressings, on the days and times stipulated.
You will probably be feeling so good to the point that you have left it recently. Watch out! The euphoria can lead to an inopportune effort, which will determine certain disorders. It is worth mentioning that between the third and fifth postoperative day there may be a slight emotional or even physical depression. This is predicted and explained by the recovery of your body, in favor of your body physiology. Do not worry about the intermediate forms in the various phases. Take with your plastic surgeon, and with him alone, any doubts that may arise. Normal power (except in special cases). We recommend hyperprotein feeding (meat, eggs, milk) as well as the use of fruits. Wait to make your "diet or slimming regimen" after the medical release. The anticipation of this conduct on its own, may determine difficult consequences to be remedied.
